Theme is perceived in one-act plays at VSS

It’ll be all about Perceptions when Vernon Secondary School’s Theatre on the Hill presents an evening of one-act plays at the school theatre starting Friday.

“The three plays are linked thematically with the idea that things are not always as they appear,” said VSS drama teacher Laurie Anne Lorge. “Together, all three plays are thought provoking, and insightful.”

First up is 7 Stories by Canadian playwright Morris Panych.

Set on the seventh floor of a seven-story building, the play follows a man who is contemplating the meaning of his existence.

He is interrupted by seven different stories, each with something to say about life in the modern age.

The next two plays are written and directed by VSS students Brooklyn Eedy and Cole Flick-Belus.

Eedy’s play, Anx, deals with the issue of anxiety in teenagers.

Flick-Belus’ Show Stopper questions different views of reality as a member of the audience breaks the fourth wall and enters the play being performed before her eyes.

Perceptions: an Evening of One Act Plays opens Friday and runs Saturday, Thursday and Jan. 23. All shows start at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $10, and are available at the VSS office (250-545-0701).
