Think you better slow your mustang down… and head to Langley car show

The 35th annual Mustang Round-Up will feature six decades of the beloved sports car.

Mustangs new and old will be gathering for the 35th annual Round Up on Sunday.

Those who head to the George Preston Recreation Centre can expect to see ponies dating from 1964½ (when Ford first started production) to 2018.

“Our first Round-Up was in 1982, and there were a couple of really important events that year for Mustang lovers,” said Heidi Hunchak, with the Greater Vancouver Mustang Association. “First and foremost, the GT returned, after being out of production for 13 long years. Also back was the 302 V8 engine. And, car enthusiasts will remember that was the year Ford began painting engines light grey, instead of the distinctive Ford blue.”

A highlight of the annual show which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. this year is the opportunity to catch a look at the 2019 Bullitt Mustang.

Admission for the public is free.

Showing is open to GVMA members and non-members. There’s room for Mustangs and all other Ford and Ford-powered vehicles.

There are a variety of Mustang and other classes. Entrants vote for the top prizes and there are three placings awarded in each class. There’s also a club award, long distance and hard luck awards.

The organization prefers if people register in advance online at www.gvma.org. People can register on show day.

The show has T-shirts, raffles and dash plaques. Registration for a vehicle is $20.

“Much has changed since 1982, but thankfully a few things haven’t,” said Hunchak, who plans to show her 2001 stock Bullitt. “Mustangs are still very popular, and GVMA’s Round-Up is a great place to see many of the B.C.’s finest cars.”
