1. American president Donald Trump is a hot topic these days, of course, and KPU Surrey is furthering the discussion during a President’s Dialogue Series event on Monday (April 10). Dr. Alan Davis will be joined by celebrated author/historian Dr. Gwynne Dyer for “The Trump Era: Barking Up the Wrong Tree,” which will focus on the global trend toward nationalism and populism, and also as the larger implications of the Trump presidency. The afternoon event, which runs from 1 to 3 p.m. and is open to the public, is described as “an informal, public sit-down conversation,” with limited space for guests. To reserve a seat, email presidentsdialogue@kpu.ca or call 604-599-2870.

2. Listen to the ragtime/Dixieland sounds of Jen Hodge All Stars and her young band on Sunday afternoon (April 9, 4 p.m.) during another Jazz Vespers concert at Northwood United Church in Fleetwood. The bassist-led group will play for about an hour at the church, located at 8855 156th St., Surrey. For a sample of songs that will be performed, visit Jenhodgebass.com.

3. In a timely event, Surrey Archives will showcase its vast Surrey Leader photograph collection in a free presentation on Saturday April 8 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Archives staff will discuss photos that appeared in the newspaper during the 1960s, highlighting major events such as the opening of the Port Mann Bridge in 1964 and Guildford Town Centre in 1966. The presentation will also profile local events “that mattered most to Surrey residents,” according to planners of the event. Pre-registration is required; call 604-502-6459 to reserve a seat. Surrey Archives is located at 17671 56th Ave.
