1. Surrey’s newest theatre company, Naked Stage Productions Society, stages its second play of the season, Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park,” on Nov. 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Newton Cultural Centre, 13530 72 Ave. The shows are done in a readers format – that is, no costumes or props, just actors using their voices and facial expressions to tell the story. In “Barefoot in the Park,” Corie and Paul Bratter are a newlywed couple. During the course of four days, the couple learns to live together while facing the usual daily ups-and-downs. Tickets for the show are $15 at the door and at Brownpapertickets.com, or visit Nakedstage.net.

2. Surrey Art Gallery (13750 88th Ave.) is hosting its annual Sound Thinking Symposium on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 1:30-4 p.m. Explore the sound of art and objects with artists Lee Hutzulak, Jay Bundy Johnson, Brady Marks and DB Boyko for Resonant Things: Sound and Objecthood on Canada’s West Coast. Along with presentations, this event features a sound performance called “Contactopus” by Lee Hutzulak and Dave Leith that uses re-purposed domestic objects, rudimentary handmade instruments and carefully curated materials. Admission is free. Look for details at Surrey.ca/artgallery, or call 604-501-5566.

3. At Elements Casino in Cloverdale, a “Double Down Against Cancer” event on Friday (Nov. 18, from 6 p.m. to midnight) will raise money for Canadian Cancer Society. Expect a night of black jack, horse racing, live music, dancing and more for $60 per person, as part of an effort to fund pediatric cancer research. Visit Bc.cancer.ca or call 604-533-1816.
