1. Sullivan Hall is the place to be for Scottish country dance classes that get going for the fall on Sept. 9, with sessions held Wednesday evenings until April. Bonus: The first class is free for newcomers, starting at 7 p.m. each week. The events, hosted by the 61-year-old White Rock Scottish Country Dance Club, are designed for people to enjoy “fellowship and fun in a warm friendly atmosphere,” according to a post on the group’s website (Wrscdc.org). “Scottish country dancing is social dancing that is also excellent aerobic exercise. 2. Close to 100 rare collector vehicles will be on display during the fifth annual Crescent Beach Concours d’Elegance, set for Saturday, Sept. 5 at Blackie Spit Park in South Surrey. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the bayside event will showcase some truly awesome automobiles, including vintage Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo and Porsche. A big draw this year should be a 1959 Watson Indy Roadster known as the Simoniz Special #16. Also, a Porsche test drive is an opportunity for attendees to drive some of the car maker’s latest models – on a first-come, first-serve basis. 3. Get ready for North Delta’s annual Luminary Festival by creating a lantern of your own, based on suggestions posted at Delta.ca. Cool creations on the website include jars painted in Henna style design, lace mason jars, melted-crayon lanterns, balloon-and-wax ones and more. Whatever you do, don’t use open-flame candles (glow sticks, solar- and battery-operated lights work well). The festival returns to Sunstone Park (10400 Delsom Cres., North Delta) on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 10 p.m. Roving and main-stage performers (the band Soulstream this year) are part of the fun.
