Tickets are on sale now for the Comox Valley Art Gallery’s fall film series, which opens with Charles Officer’s Unarmed Verses on Sept. 16.

The film series, an ongoing fundraiser for CVAG, screens films from the Toronto International Film Festival through TIFF – Film Circuit.

The films scheduled for this fall are:

Unarmed Verses – Sunday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m.

An impassioned portrait of self-expression and the universal desire for a sense of belonging, Unarmed Verses follows Francine Valentine, a sensitive, shy, and fiercely curious adolescent as she discovers the power of poetry, of music, and of her own voice.

Mary Goes Round – Sunday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m.

Mary, played by Aya Cash, is a woman-child anxiously fighting pain she doesn’t understand and has a tough time acknowledging. She is a complicated emblem of resilience wobbling towards the realization that caring about others might actually be the way to escape one’s own trauma.

Anthropocene: The Human Epoch – Sunday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m.

Anthropocene is a term signifying the exact time of human influence on Earth’s geographic landscape. This film, with its stunning visuals and timely activism, explores humanity’s impact on the natural world.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post– Sunday, Oct. 21 at 5 p.m.

Based on a coming-of-age teen novel by Emily M. Danforth, The Miseducation of Cameron Post explores how identities, families and communities are intertwined.

Mary Shelley – Sunday, Oct. 28 at 5 p.m.

As Saudi Arabia’s first female filmmaker, Al-Mansour is as much a pioneer as her heroine. Mary Shelley depicts the author as a fiercely modern 19th- century woman, and her Frankenstein as the product of unbridled imagination and profound grief.

Cardinals– Sunday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m.

In this Canadian psychological thriller, Valerie Walker returns home from prison years after a drunk-driving accident causing death and wants nothing more than to move on. However, it becomes clear that the past is not easily forgotten.

Three Identical Strangers– Sunday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m.

A film of triumph and tragedy, and a true testament to the power of documentary film, Three Identical Strangers leads its audience through an emotional journey about how we understand our families and ourselves.

Passes for all seven films are $91 for CVAG members and $98 for non-members. Individual tickets will be $14 each for CVAG members, $15 for non-members. Call 250-338-6211 to purchase tickets over the phone, or drop by CVAG Shop at 580 Duncan Ave, Courtenay.
