Imagine if Gilligan’s Island wasn’t about a group of seven people marooned on an island, but a group of 40 choristers.
Now, these choristers must be unlucky, because they end up getting marooned three separate times.
That’s the premise for the Tidesmen Barbershop Chorus’ upcoming show Marooned on Harmony Island.
“Forty guys are washed ashore on an island and hijinks ensue,” said Mike Patterson, vice-president of marketing for the Tidesmen Barbershop Chorus.
He said each spring show, the Tidesmen performance has a theme and story. The chorus also always has a guest artist.
The Tidesmen will perform during the first half of the show and the guest artist will perform during the second half.
During the show, members will tell stories and sing songs related to the beach, such as Under the Boardwalk.
The marooned men have a few questions, such as will they meet the locals and how will they get rescued.
The show includes a performance by The Squares Quartet Association. The quartet hails from Port Moody and is comprised of numerous members who perform in quartets.
Patterson said the members of the quartet rotate because they aren’t available all the time, as they all have full-time jobs as well as performing for the association.
Marooned on Harmony Island is Saturday (May 14) at the Port Theatre at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for students, available in advance by calling 250-754-8550 or visiting www.portheatre.com.
