It might only be May – but for hundreds of young hopefuls including 9-year-old Elizabeth Jobling from Maple Ridge, the chance to perform in a holiday tradition meant Christmas came early this year.
Auditions for Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker took place at the Scotiabank Dance Centre in Vancouver last week and young dancers from across the Lower Mainland are now waiting to find out if they will be given the chance of a lifetime.
Winning a coveted role in the production would mean performing alongside critically acclaimed dancers from the New York City ballet with live accompaniment from the Vancouver Opera Orchestra.
“Elizabeth was in The Nutcracker last year and playing alongside other dancers, especially the Principals was just amazing and she can’t wait to do it again,” said Elizabeth’s mom Jessie Resto.
Dancers find out if they’ve landed a role by the end of the week.
