Trio of Comox Valley pianists performing Sunday

Dagmar Kilian, Eleonore Krullaarts and Peter Walker will play an interesting variety of classical pieces at St. John the Divine Church

A trio of well-known Comox Valley pianists will perform Dec. 8 in the second of St. John the Divine Church’s Autumn Sunday Concerts.

Dagmar Kilian, Eleonore Krullaarts and Peter Walker will play an interesting variety of classical pieces. Dagmar and Eleonore will also join forces with Peter for spectacular duets.

Dagmar initially received her musical training at the University of Victoria, obtaining a Bachelor of Music followed by a Masters in Performance, then decided to further her studies in the Netherlands. There, she was happily ensconced in the vibrant music scene and shared her talents with various groups such as Circle Ensemble, Netherlands Dance and Holland Symphonia.

Dagmar is known in the Valley as a piano teacher and accompanist regularly for Rainbow Theatre and on occasion for Co-Val and CYMC. She is the organist and choir director at St. John’s Church.

Eleonore, having been born in the Netherlands, has a Masters Degree in piano teaching and performance from the University of Utrecht, which was followed by recitals and appearances in her home country, France, East and West Germany, Israel, USA and Canada.

It appears that the Netherlands is a great training ground for musicians of a classical bent, as illustrated by these two performers.

When Eleonore finds time, her other artistic interests include watercolour painting, essay writing, attending art exhibits and studying energy medicine. She is a PhD candidate and recently was offered a Stanford Honours Reward.

Peter’s career in Lethbridge was as a Social Studies teacher, but his passion was doing justice to great compositions. For many years he was known in the school system as “the piano man” — go to him and he will play or compose!

Peter has been a regular CBC performer and was the winner in 1970 of the CBC Talent Festival and subsequently performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He enjoys playing a variety of composers and aims to bring a sense of joy and wonder to the pieces he will play.

Peter is a member of the Comox Valley Music Society and gave an eclectic recital last year as his introduction to the discriminating musical audience.

We invite you one and all to hear and enjoy this exciting concert with exceptional pianists and excellent acoustics. The concert commences at 2 p.m. at 579 Fifth St. in Courtenay.

Admission is by donation. Proceeds will benefit various church ministries.
