Three pianists, six hands, and only one piano — Three’s a Crowd… Not will be an acrobatic musical spectacle like no other.
After a successful season, the Chilliwack Arts and Cultural Centre Society’s Classical Music Series is coming to an end with what could be the most impressive performance yet.
On March 24 pianists Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann, better known as The Bergmann Duo, are teaming up with Sarah Hagen for Three’s a Crowd… Not, with each showcasing their remarkable talent — sometimes all on the same instrument.
Hagen is a veteran of performing at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre, and even hosted the classical music series last year, stunning the audience every time.
She is also the artistic director of Pro’ject Sound where she combines live piano performances with large-scale projected images. She has recorded two of her own albums, Glass House Dancing and Devoted: Music of Robert & Clara Schumann, and has performed on CBC Radio One’s North by Northwest and CBC Radio 2’s In Concert.
The Bergmann Duo, hosting this season’s classical music series, met while studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. Now international performers, the duo’s repertoire includes everything from jazz to contemporary, and even a few original compositions by Marcel.
The Bergmanns have won a variety of awards, including first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy and the 4th Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition.
The Bergmanns are the directors for the Langley Community Music School, and the artistic directors for White Rock Concerts, a non-profit arts organization.
Guaranteed to be a performance full of energy and intensity, Three’s a Crowd… Not will feature three of Canada’s top pianists as they navigate through complex choreography together — an impressive and notable show for any audience.
Three’s a Crowd… Not is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on March 24 at 10:30 a.m. Tickets: $27/adults, $24/seniors, and $22/youth, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469), or online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca.
