The Fat Oyster Reading Series is hosting three dynamic B.C. writers at its next event, Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Fanny Bay Hall.
Featured readers are Caroline Adderson, Shelley Leedahl, and Kevin Flesher.
Caroline Adderson is an internationally-published author who has received numerous award nominations including the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, two Commonwealth Writers’ Prizes, the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Rogers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and the Scotiabank Giller Prize longlist.
She has won three BC Book Prizes and three CBC Literary Awards. Her most recent novel, Ellen in Pieces, was a CBC and a Writer’s Trust of Canada Best Book of 2014 and was nominated for the 2015 Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize. Vancouver Vanishes, which she contributed to and co-edited, spent six months on the BC Bestseller List and was nominated for the 2016 Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award. Her first novel, Bad Imaginings was recently included in a Chatelaine feature of the best Canadian fiction of all time as chosen by Canadian novelists.
Shelley Leedahl has been shortlisted for Saskatchewan Book of the year and has had work translated into Chinese, Korean and Braille. Her most recent publication is a candid collection of essays. I Wasn’t Always Like This draws upon childhood memories, hikes, road trips, foreign travel and self-imposed exile to explore the complexities of starting over. Her 12th book will be released in 2017 with Red Deer Press.
Kevin Flesher has written several plays, books of poetry, songs and a few stories. In his capacity as the first poet laureate of the Comox Valley he has organized poetry readings, a poetry contest and has penned commemorative poems for special occasions.
The Fat Oyster Reading Series showcases emerging and recognized writers, thanks to support from Canada Council for the Arts, the Fanny Bay Community Association, Macs Oysters, Fanny Bay Oysters, and Hollie Wood Oysters. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with readings beginning at 7.
