The Envision Twilight Concert Series will close out the 2012 summer concert season with an exciting show by Souled Out at Fraser River Heritage Park on Friday, Aug. 31 from 7 to 8 pm.
Souled Out is a dynamic 11-piece band playing classic R&B, soul, funk and disco from the 1960s to today. The band features three lead vocalists, the AirTight horns (their four-piece horn section), and a rock solid rhythm section that glues it all together.
The band’s founding members have their roots in some of Vancouver’s great R&B club bands including The Vancouver Accents, Soul Unlimited, The Soul Demons, and others. Together for the last three years, Souled Out has rapidly become one of the Lower Mainland’s premier live dance bands, performing the hits of artists such as Tower of Power, the Motown greats, Stevie Wonder, Etta James, Steely Dan, James Brown, and many others.
Series organizers would like to thank Twilight audiences for another great summer of their support and patronage.
Producer John Taves would like to thank sponsors for coming on board and helping the series attract groups from farther afield to Mission. This is Taves’ last year with the series, as he and his wife Mary-Ann now make their residence in Powell River, close to grandchildren, and are occupied with clearing farm land, and working with MCC, opening a thrift store to support the work of MCC around the world.
Taves is excited Mark and Bronwen Sutherland have accepted the position of Envision Twilight Series producers for the 2013 season.
“Concert-goers will recognize Mark as the sound production man taking the concerts to a very professional level. Bronwen is a well-known member of the arts community in Mission as manager of the Clarke Theatre. Both bring years of community spirit, a life dedicated to the creative arts, and a deep sense of the jewel that the Envision Twilight Series is to our community.
“Thanks also to Mission Special Olympics, Mission Optimist Club, and the individual volunteers who give their time and energy all summer long,” he added.
The Art in the Park program will also be present on this final evening of the summer series.
“Envision has been proud to support the Envision Twilight Concert Series for the past 12 years,” says Carol Hamilton, branch manager at Envision Financial’s Mission location. “This is a wonderful series that provides local artists with the chance to perform in a relaxed and casual atmosphere while the community enjoys various musical genres ranging from jazz, blues and folk to country, rock and pop.”
Bring a lawn chair or blanket for a fun evening at the park. The Blackberry Kitchen and The Log Cabin Café are open. Envision Twilight Concerts are a community, free-by-donation series. For more information call 604-826-0277.
