Two Abbotsford residents involved in award-winning play

How it Works receives Fraser Valley Zone Festival honours

Two Abbotsford residents were involved in a Mission play that won awards at the recent Fraser Valley Zone Festival.

Brian Billo, theatre and film teacher at Abbotsford’s W.J. Mouat Secondary, was awarded Most Chemistry Between Two Actors, along with his co-star Catherine Dawn, for their roles in the Opening Nite Theatre production of How it Works.

The play was directed by Abbotsford resident Helen Embury and enjoyed a run in Mission before moving on to the festival.

How it Works is a four-character ensemble about a family coping with a drug-addicted teenage daughter (played by Petra Atebe). Also starring in the production was Camille Atebe.

Dawn and Camille Atebe, both of Mission, both won Best Actress awards in the zone festival, while Best Costumes for the production went to Bunny Patterson, also of Mission.

Eight community theatre groups competed in the Fraser Valley Zone Festival.
