Two new venues for Blizzard Fest 2018 in Rossland

There are two new venues and a lineup of great bands for Blizzard Music Festival 2018.

This year will soon draw to a close, but a new year means a new lineup at the Blizzard Music Festival and this year there are also two new venues.

Headlining the Festival is Seattle band Pickwick, playing Friday, Jan. 26 at the Miners’ Hall.

“They’re kind of a soul-funk rock band,” says Daniel D’Amour, chair of the Blizzard Music Festival.

“They played Rossland a few years ago. I think they were brought in to play Rafters, so there’s a bit of familiarity there,” he adds. “And they just put a new record out.”

Violinist Kytami from Vancouver takes the stage at Olaus Ice Palace on Saturday, Dec. 27.

“And Dirty Catfish Brass Band from Winnipeg, they’re an eight-piece brass band and they’re going to play Saturday night at the Miners’ Hall,” says D’Amour.

Weekend passes are $150 this year.

“That guarantees access to all the venues, aside from Alpine Grind,” says D’Amour. “Alpine Grind is subject to capacity just because it’s such a small room. But the other venues, if you buy a pass, your spot will be held.”

This year’s venues included the Olaus Ice Palace, the Miners’ Hall, the Flying Steamshovel, the Grind and — new this year — the Rossland Legion and the Rock Cut Pub.

“The Rock Cut is going to host a DJ show on Thursday night to kick things off and the Legion is going to be another venue on Friday night,” says D’Amour.

Tickets to individual shows are also available, though popular shows have sold out fast in the past, so get your tickets sooner than later.

Tickets and passes can be purchased at the Flying Steamshovel or online at ticketweb.ca.
