Bard to Broadway is pleased to announce its upcoming season. The 19th to be exact.
Performances include two rollicking comedies and a “to die for” musical.
The first comedy, Savannah Sipping Society, was written by Jones, Hope and Wooten — the trio who penned Always a Bridesmaid, which B2B produced in 2014. This bubbly (pun intended) little comedy tells the story of four women who meet at a disastrous round of hot yoga. Needless to say, as their friendship develops, some or perhaps a lot of tippling takes place. Jay Norton will direct this play.
The second comedy, Baskerville, is a spoof of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1902 mystery, The Hound of the Baskervilles. Playwright Ken Ludwig’s adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes classic is a hilarious romp in which a cast of five portrays about 40 characters which is particularly impressive because two of them are always playing Holmes and his sidekick, Dr. Watson. This play will be directed by Mike Moroz.
The third production is described as a “to die for” musical.
B2B is so excited about it that organizers have decided to keep it a secret. It’s a surprise musical which will be unveiled Jan. 1, 2018. The suspense will build until then. No hints.
Open play readings for Savannah Sipping Society on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. at 186 Shelly Rd. Nov. 9 for Baskerville at the same time and same location.
Auditions for all three plays will be held Jan. 20 in Parksville (at Shelly Road Hall) from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 21 in Nanaimo at St. Pauls a 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 28 in Parksville at 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and call backs Feb. 4 in Parksville .
