An international, award-winning magician who was the first person to fool Penn and Teller twice on their television show, Fool Us, will be giving a one-time performance at Westview secondary in support of the school’s dry grad.
“I’m super excited I’m doing something local,” said Shawn Farquhar, who’s daughter is in the graduating class.
Farquhar is used to doing shows for thousands of people at a time. At last years Pacific National Exhibition, he performed for 4,000 to 6,000 every day.
In addition to Fool Us, Farquhar was also invited onto the Ellen DeGeneres Show and is a two-time world champion of magic.
Farquhar just finished a 37-city tour of Spain.
The show, he promises, will be something you won’t see anywhere else.
“A lot of really cool slight of hand. Lots of comedy involved. Lots of audience participation. I will make a handkerchief come to life and dance and I’ll float things in the air. It will be a memory for everybody,” said Farquhar.
There will also be lots of audience participation.
“It’s an opportunity for people to come up and actually be in the magic show,” he said, adding that he will be staying after the show to meet and greet fans.
All money from the show is going to the dry grad which will have a Roaring 20’s theme with video games, a dance and other activities being organized by Laurel Ross, head of the dry grad committee.
“They have a hypnotist coming in, which is even funnier because the hypnotist used to be my high school teacher from Victoria,” said Farquhar who is doing another show that night.
There are only 210 tickets available for the nights performance and 100 tickets have already been sold. Farquhar also donated 200 of his DVDs that will be for sale the night of.
The show is suitable to people of all ages which Farquhar says is great because, “parents can bring younger kids so they can demystify the high school in advance.”
Secrets the Magic Show takes place at 7 p.m. on Apr. 21 at Westview secondary, 20905 Wicklund Ave. in Maple Ridge.
