As the Christmas season approaches, the choirs of TWU’s School of the Arts, Media and Culture (SAMC) present In Dulci Jubilo, a musical celebration of Christ’s birth. This concert — to be held on Sunday, Nov. 25 near the site of the University’s new Richmond campus — will feature the choral work of TWU students, community members, and faculty.
“It will be a wonderful opportunity to witness some exceptional music making as we kickstart the Christmas season,” says Caron Daley, SAMC’s interim director of choral activities. She notes that, along with highlights from the choirs’ popular Christmas repertoire, the concert will include a selection of Advent pieces well-suited to this time of year.
In Dulci Jubilo will present music from a diverse group of composers, including Jenkins, Willan, Willcocks, Wilberg, and Tavener.
As a special highlight, the choirs will perform a premiere setting of the Magnificat text by David Squires, dean of SAMC.
The audience will be treated to performances by all of SAMC’s choirs as well as solos by soprano Alison Nystrom, organist Edward Norman, and pianist Suzanne Klukas.
“It’s a great chance to see the TWU choirs in action and to celebrate some of the fine musical talent that we have on campus,” said Daley.
The choirs have also prepared a few popular singalong pieces for audience participation, making the event a delightfully interactive experience for the community this holiday season.
The new Richmond campus, on the corner of Minoru Boulevard and Firbridge Way, is being built as part of a multimillion-dollar residential development in downtown Richmond.
The new residential complex housing the campus will consist of townhouses, five towers, a community centre, and is a short walk from two Canada Line stations.
This fall, a small cohort of adult degree completion (ADC) students began their program out of the Richmond Cultural Centre. The new campus, set to open in fall 2014, will host these students and more with programming tailored to meet the specific needs of the Richmond community. The next ADC program in Richmond will start at the end of January, 2013. For more information about this program contact Sandy Cameron (sandy.cameron@twu.ca) 604-561-2801.
The afternoon concert will be held at Richmond Pentecostal Church. For more information, visit twu.ca/samc or click on the link below.
