When they found out one of their fellow performers’ families needed help, Vile Pole Arts V Performance Troupe members were quick to step up and offer support.
Vile Pole Arts owner Jenny Phillips quickly made the troupe’s upcoming Fantasy and Horror show on Saturday, Oct. 5 a fundraiser.
“We do these shows quite often, every six to 10 weeks, and we’ve been working on this one for seven weeks now,” she said. “Just a few days ago, one of our troupe members informed us her sister has been diagnosed with a brain tumour, so we switched gears and turned it into a fundraiser.”
The show is a fundraiser for Leah Smith, who must undergo neurosurgery, and Vile Pole Arts will be raising money through a blind auction where people can bid on items they cannot see.
“We’ll have some other fun games going on throughout the night,” said Phillips. “We will be doing things in between performances and at intermission, and we hope people will come with the mindset that it is fundraiser.”
Phillips says there will be 14 troupe members performing at Saturday’s show, and the show will include a variety of disciplines, including pole dancing, chair dancing and belly dancing.
“There’s a little bit of everything,” she said. “Our theme is Fantasy and Horror because it is an October show. We want it to be lots of fun for everybody. We’re going to have a lot of audience interaction and lots of fun surprises.”
Saturday’s Fantasy and Horror fundraiser show begins at 8 p.m. at The Occidental and is for ages 19-plus. Tickets are $20 in advance at the venue or from V Performance Troupe members or $25 at the door.
