‘Upcycled art’ available for viewing and votes

Upcycling Design Challenge exhibit is featured at Willowbrook Shopping Centre

Art, inspiration, and environmental stewardship will be on display this month when the Upcycling Design Challenge exhibit is featured at Willowbrook Shopping Centre.

The Challenge is presented each year by the Township of Langley and the Langley Arts Council to encourage residents to turn trash into treasure by taking something destined for the landfill and transforming it into something unique, functional, and artistic. Entries must be made from at least 75% found or recovered material, and this year’s challenge material is Styrofoam.

The creative and unusual entries will be exhibited at Willowbrook from Wednesday, May 10 to Sunday, May 21. Visitors are encouraged to explore the display and vote for their favourite piece. Everyone who votes will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a $100 Willowbrook Gift Card, and the artist whose piece earns the most votes will receive a People’s Choice Award.

Awards in a number of categories will be presented to the artists during a reception on Thursday, May 18, 6 to 8 p.m., at Willowbrook Shopping Centre, 19705 Fraser Highway. The public is invited to attend.
