Valley Concert Society has prepared a series of concerts to celebrate its 30th year of bringing world-class musical performances to Abbotsford.
This year, the organization is bringing a cast of international performers representing Russia, Italy, China and Canada.
Trio Voronezh, from the Russian city of that name, opens the season on Friday, Sept. 28 with a concert featuring traditional Russian instruments.
Cappella Artemisia, performing on Oct. 24, is a female choral ensemble who not only bring music from Renaissance Italy, but present a story of mystery and invention from the cloisters.
Cecilia String Quartet, winners of first prize at the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition, opens the 2013 portion of the season on Jan. 11.
Ang Li, a brilliant young pianist of Chinese heritage, will perform here in February.
Vancouver Cantata Singers, performing March 8, won the Healy Willan Grand Prize in 2011 – an award they have won more times than any choir in this country.
I Tromboni concludes the regular season on May 3 with the sound that only five trombones can create.
In addition to this series of musical treats, the society will present B.C.’s own international operatic star, Ben Heppner, in a special recital on May 27.
Subscribers to the regular season will be able to get tickets for this highlight at a discount until Oct. 25.
Thanks to the contribution of sponsors, the society is able to offer a subscription for $110 ($100 for seniors).
