The Valley Concert Society presents Casa Diva in concert at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (32315 South Fraser Way) on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
The vocal trio presents a program of Christmas music that combines well-known favourites with new and creative arrangements.
Headlining the trio is Abbotsford native Megan Latham, who currently enjoys a thriving career as an operatic mezzo-soprano.
Most recently, she performed for key roles in the Pacific Opera Victoria production of Il Trittico by Puccini. She also appeared in world-premiere performances of Stickboy and Dark Sisters for Vancouver Opera.

Latham has performed for opera companies across Canada as well as singing in oratorios and in recital. Her voice has been described by Opera Canada as “clear and honey colored.”
While studying in Toronto, Latham became great friends with two sopranos, Joni Henson and Virginia Hatfield. A friend aptly named the house in which they lived “Casa Diva,” and the name has come to identify the trio.
Among the major roles that Henson has performed are Elisabetta in Vancouver Opera’s production of Don Carlo, Desdemona in Otello for Calgary Opera, and the title role in Tosca for Pacific Opera Victoria.
She has won prizes in competitions in Belgium and France.
Hatfield has sung the role of Leila in Hamilton Opera’s production of The Pearl Fishers and Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro for Saskatoon Opera. The Halifax Herald lauded her “warmth and radiance combined with commanding coloratura.”
Besides their individual careers, the three have continued to find opportunities to perform as Casa Diva. Abbotsford pianist Dr. Betty Suderman will accompany them in the concert.
Tickets are $28 for adults and $15 for students, and can be purchased online at valleyconcertsociety.com . Phone 604-289-3377 for more information.
