Vancouver graphic novelist to share writing, drawing skills in online workshop with Agassiz Library

Kathleen Gros will be leading the Magical World of Words and Pictures workshop on March 6

The Agassiz Library and Kent Harrison Arts Council are teaming up to bring residents a virtual workshop with cartoonist Kathleen Gros.

On March 6, Gros will be leading the Magical World of Words and Pictures workshop, held online due to COVID-19. Gros is a Vancouver cartoonist, best known for her graphic novel Jo: An Adaption of Little Women (Sort Of) and her other comic works Last Night at Wyrmwood High and Lunar Maladies. She has two more graphic novels slated to be released in 2022 and 2024.

Gros’s three-hour workshop will allow participants to explore how words and pictures combine in comics to create new meaning, and show how it can influence what writers can communicate.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of graphic novel and comic book storytelling, as well as get a chance to experiment with creative exercises to inspire their own stories.

The workshop will be taking place over Zoom between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 6. The event is free to attend, and is open to both new and experienced writers and artists.

Space is limited and participants are required to pre-register online.
