The Vancouver Island Opera (VIO) has announced it’s feature full length production this year, L’Eliser d’Amore, or The Elixir of Love, playing Nov. 5 and 6.

Artistic director Tatiana Vasilieva has chosen four soloists out of 25 to perform in the production, and all are very pleased to have a full orchestra, instead of the usual piano accompaniment, Vasilieva said.

John Arsenault will return to conduct from Vancouver, a well known singer, tenor and conductor.

The opera is called an “opera buffa” in Italian, meaning it is a comic opera centered around the subject of love. Vasilieva said it is a wonderful opera to watch.

“It has beautiful melodies and lots of choruses to sing,” she said.

L’Eliser d’Amore is number 20 on Opera America’s list of the 20 most-performed operas in North America.

VIO is accepting choir members for this production. No experience is necessary just a love of singing. Rehearsals begin in September at the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville.

The annual fee to join the chorus is $85. Those interested contact Tatiana at 250-586-6095.
