Imagine a world where everyone raises his or her voice, not in anger, but for the joy of singing aloud.
That’s what Counterpoint Choir plans to deliver when it presents its spring concert, aptly titled Imagine a World, for two performances Sunday at Knox Presbyterian Church.
Along with selections based on upbeat music from around the world, the choir, led by director Coreen Smith, is welcoming the W.L. Seaton Secondary C-Tones Honour Choir, directed by Seaton teacher Lana O’Brien.
“The choir is thrilled to join the Counterpoint choir for this concert,” said O’Brien.
Seaton’s Honour Choir is an off-shoot from the much larger Seaton Show Choir, and features students from Grade 8 to 12. The students audition to get into the choir, which meets for one hour a week outside of the regular timetable.
“The music this group tackles is generally more difficult and covers a wide range of styles including vocal jazz, world music and musical theatre, both accompanied and a cappella,” said O’Brien.
Along with the larger show choir, the Seaton Honour Choir backed up local pop star Andrew Allen at his Christmas concert this past December at the Performing Arts Centre. The group also performed at Creative Chaos, the Rotary Carol Festival, and with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra at Christmas, and participated in the B.C. Winter Games in Vernon last year.
Besides the Seaton Honour Choir, members of the Jabulani drumming group, directed by Ann Dorval, will also join Counterpoint at its concert.
Sunday’s event takes place at 2 and 7 p.m. Knox Presbyterian Church is located at 3701 32nd Ave. off Alexis Park Drive.
