Whether hiking his favourite rocky outcrop overlooking Kalamalka Lake, meditating, or strumming his guitar, Chris Madsen is always looking for a way to share what he has learned.
The former music school owner is about to host a number of events open to the public, which combine music with the spiritual understanding he has accrued the last few years of meditative and continued guitar practice.
“In the past number of years, I have focused on emerging the music as a solo acoustic artist. That mainly has been about inward journeys and daily long hikes in Kal Park, shoreline meditations, and countless hours discovering the treasures hidden within the six strings,” he said. “The past several years has been time for these inward journeys and thus have given myself permission to not be very public doing concerts. That time is now over, the grand song is blossoming with gifts to share.”
The first event takes place Friday at 7:30 p.m. at The Hub Arts Collective, next to the Towne Theatre, which will be an evening of solo acoustic guitar. Admission is free.
Madsen has also booked the Powerhouse Theatre to show the film Thrive, which explores everything from organic farming to banking to new energy sources as a way to a sustainable future for mankind.
“Every Vernon resident needs to see this movie. It goes into many areas that are pertinent to each of our daily lives,” he said. “It goes into why things are the way they are now and offers awesome solutions on how we individually can be the change we wish to see in the world.”
Showtimes are June 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and June 10 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15.50 general admission, available at the Ticket Seller. Call 250-549-7469 or order online at www.ticketseller.ca.
Madsen will also be hosting free Sunday gatherings at Polson Park by the rose garden. Starting at 12:30 p.m., participants are welcome to explore drumming, flow dancing, yoga, music, and other artistic endeavours every week.
“It’s a perfect time for families as little munchkins can run around,” he said.
