The Victoria Choral Society celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, and is looking for new voices.
The society is an ever-changing mix of individuals of all ages committed to singing “for the joy of it”. Its members rehearse once a week and perform three or more times per year, frequently as guests of the Victoria Symphony.
During the 2014-15 season the choral society will perform four times with the Victoria Symphony – in Britten’s War Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Tobin Stokes’ The Piper and Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. The final, self-produced concert on April 17 will feature contemporary works by Orff and others.
The Victoria Choral Society began as the Victoria Choral Union in 1934 when 200 singers from a number of choirs came together to perform Handel’s Messiah.
