Known for their virtuosic and captivating performances, the Victoria Guitar Trio is one of Canada’s premier classical guitar trios. On Jan. 25, the trio returns to their alma mater, the University of Victoria’s School of Music, to perform a program of works by West Coast Canadian composers.
“We are excited to play works from local composers with whom we have developed close friendships,” says guitarist Michael Dias.
“Studying with UVic guitar professor Dr. Alexander Dunn was our common bond and influenced the formation of our ensemble.”
Part of the music school’s Alumni Concert Series, the program will include premieres of new works by Scott Edward Godin, John Mark Sherlock and Jordan Nobles, plus music by Rodney Sharman and Benton Roark.
All pieces on the program will appear on the Victoria Guitar Trio’s coming 2017 CD release, Concentric Rings: New Sounds for Three Guitars, on Redshift records.
The Victoria Guitar Trio performs at UVic’s Phillip T. Young Recital Hall. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15 and $10 or free for UVic Alumni with a valid ONECard. Purchase tickets from the UVic Ticket Centre, 250-721-8480 or tickets.uvic.ca, or at the door.
