The Victoria Symphony started off its 75th anniversary celebration season Wednesday night with a concert and launch party.
The hour-long show featured excerpts of music that were meant to represent the upcoming season.
“We are celebrating out past, present and future,” said Jill Smilie, director of marketing for the Victoria Symphony. “We are so pleased to be part of this community and really celebrating with the community. It’s a real milestone for us.”
For the 75th anniversary 2015/2016 season, the Victoria Symphony will be performing a variety of shows with some special guests.
For the opening night in September, the Victoria Symphony will be performing with The Naden Band.
“We have a rich history with them,” said Smilie. “When the symphony first started, about half the players were from The Naden Band.”
In December, famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma will be joining the Victoria Symphony for a special performance.
