Crimson Coast Dance Society is inviting people to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings connected to the importance of water.
The organization is taking registration for its Body of Water: Springboard Performance piece. Participants will help shape a final performance piece that will take place on May 20 and during the InFringing Dance Festival.
People will be guided through the creative process by Nicole Mion, a choreographer, filmmaker and artistic director of Springboard Performance, Danielea Castell, founder of the Water Gratitude Project and Nanaimo dancer Genevieve Johnson.
“This is a project I started a number of years ago called Body of Water and I was curious about connecting with communities and finding ways to connect communities through art and the incredible landscapes …,” said Mion. “The quality of water has always fascinated me … I felt that, that fascination could be integrated into this idea, because of the movement quality of water and the feeling you get.”
People’s relationship with water can be hard to define in words. Mion said the arts can play a valuable part in “revealing, unearthing or celebrating” when no one word quite captures it.
Registration is $50, as well as tickets to the May 20 performance, available by visiting www.crimsoncoastdance.org. No experience is necessary.
The location of the show will be near one of Nanaimo’s water sources that will be determined by the participants.
