The Cowichan Folk Guild Coffeehouse, on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Duncan United Church, features The Ever-Lovin’ Jug Band.
Hailing from Waterloo, Ontario, this duo is great fun.
Trading lead vocals, and playing multiple instruments at once, the Ever-Lovin’ Jug Band produces a truly authentic old-time sound.
Minnie Heart plays fiddle/banjolin/kazoo and an unusual foot-bass, while Bill Howard plays guitar and jug.
Whew! No wonder they’re so slim!
Traveling all over Canada and the U.S., they have played in every imaginable venue, from large halls, to loud bars, to small, acoustic cafes, and have performed at countless festivals, including the National Jug Band Jubilee, the Brooklyn Folk Festival, and the Mariposa Folk Festival, to name a few.
Ever-lovin’ Jug Band has released two full-length albums of original material, and are currently at work on a third.
Kelly Nakatsuka, artistic director for the Folk Guild, says, “While they perform many of the songs of, and draw inspiration from the jug bands and string bands of the 1920s and 30s, they are not a throwback or a hokey revival trying to keep this music alive, rather they are proof that it never went away and has been slowly evolving over the course of a century. We’re excited to welcome them to the Cowichan Valley and hope you can join us for the first CFG Coffeehouse of 2019.”
The church is located right in downtown at 246 Ingram St.
Doors open at 7 p.m. And open stage begins at 7:30 p.m., with the featured act to follow.
Admission at the door is $5 for CFG Members, and $10 for non-members.
