He has established himself as one of Canada’s most brilliant and exhilarating guitarists. And now Ewan Dobson is about to grace the North Okanagan with his presence.
A classically trained guitarist, who plays everything from acoustic metal to folk, Dobson, 33, is currently touring the U.S. before he crosses the border, playing what will be one of his more intimate shows at Lorenzo’s Café in Ashton Creek, Friday, March 20.
His impressive list of credentials include winning grand prizes at provincial music festivals in his native Ontario as well as making his mark representing Ontario twice at the national finals of the prestigious Canadian Music Competitions (CMC), where he was awarded the top prize in guitar.
In the summer of 2009, Dobson was crowned the Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Champion at the prestigious fifth annual Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Competition in Kingston, Ont.
Shortly after this victory, he captured another first prize in the acoustic category at the fourth Montreal Guitar Grand Prix.
However, the highlight of his career so far is when he caught the attention of the world by capturing third place at the 38th International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship held in Winfield, Kansas.
His YouTube channel, on CandyRat Records, where he plays his original compositions, has more than one million hits.
Friday’s performance with Dobson starts at 8 p.m. at Lorenzo’s, 901 Mabel Lake Rd. (eight kilometres east of Enderby). Call 250 838-6700 for more info and/or reservations.
