She's got a super trio backing her, and will prove beyond doubt she's a force of nature

There’s great news for jazz fans, according to Ron Joiner.

The publicist for Pat’s House of Jazz at Crofton’s Osborne Bay Pub is sharing the news of a Susannah Adams show Sunday, April 14.

“Known for her hip phrasing, keen stylings and exuberant delivery, Victoria-based jazz vocalist Adams is poised to set hearts a-flutter when she returns to Crofton. She’ll be accompanied by Cuban-born piano virtuoso Pablo Cardenas, bassist Peter Dowse and drummer Damian Graham — some of the most exciting musicians in the business.

“I think this is the biggest-drawing show of the season; Susuannh’s hugely popular and becoming more so since her recent appearance on CBC’s Hot Air and a hugely successful show at Frankie’s in Vancouver. Separately, Adams and Cardenas sell out shows at the jazz club; together they’ll pack quite a punch, so make your reservations early for this blockbuster show.

“Adorned with flaming tresses and a spirit to match, Adams is acclaimed as being ‘one of the best singers in Victoria’ by Times Colonist reviewer Mike Devlin and she is well regarded among her peers for her flair for improvisation and for forging new collaborations. No two shows are alike. Celebrated Vancouver guitarist Oliver Gannon has lauded her ‘unique approach to it all; you don’t play it safe’.”

Joiner says that since the release of her debut album As the Morning Light last year, Adams has been “flying high, reaching a growing audience both on Vancouver Island and on the mainland”.

The singer recently paid tribute to Aretha Franklin with four other top Victoria jazz vocalists at a sold-out concert, and Adams says the Queen of Soul’s influence has been percolating into her music lately.

Cowichan Valley fans can look forward to hearing Adams explore new stylings as she leads this dynamic quartet to deliver some favourite jazz standards along with some new compositions of her own.

The show is part of a regular Sunday afternoon jazz series at the all-ages Osborne Bay Pub, 1534 Joan Ave. in Crofton, presented by the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society. Reservations are recommended. Tables will be held until 1:30 p.m. Call 250-324-2245 or visit http://osbornebaypub.com.
