Concert featured Phil Dwyer music academy faculty

The faculty jazz concert featuring some of Canada’s best jazz musicians played to an appreciative audience at Knox United Church on Thursday Aug. 16.

The rare gathering of talent came about through the Phil Dwyer Academy of Music and Culinary Arts, which Dwyer rebooted with the help of the MAC (McMillan Arts Centre) this year, drawing on his contacts in the music industry to gather an all-star group of teachers/musicians.

Dwyer performed along with Ingrid Jensen, Neil Swainson, Ted Quinlan, Ken Lister, PJ Perry, Jon Wikan, Hans Verhoeven, Joel Miller and Christine Jensen.

A junior and senior jazz concert put on by students will take place at Whalebone Theatre at Ballenas Secondary School on Friday, Aug. 17, while an adult student jazz concert takes place Thursday, Aug. 23 at Thalassa Restaurant. Both take place at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10. For tickets, go to mcmillanartscentre.com or purchase at the door.
