Though the light faded in a smoky sky Sunday night, Sunshine Valley lived up to its name in spirit at least.

Guests danced to the live music of Destination Unknown and the Graham Brown Band at the Sunshine Community Cooperative Club‘s (SCCC) main annual fundraiser.

The event, Sunshine Valley Days, raises money to keep the centre running to provide members access to more than three acres of recreational property and social events.

Local singer/songwriter/musician, Ashley Pater, brought her newly formed three-piece Destination Unknown to start the musical portion of the night.

Opening for long-established Vancouver artist Brown and his band, it was Pator’s first time playing the event which she has grown up attending.

“It’s really exciting for me,” said the 14-year-old who splits her time between the valley and Surrey. “I’ve watched it every year and always wanted to be a part of it.”

Pater, Brown and their groups helped the SCCC raise money to maintain and operate the nearly 40-year-old facilities.
