SURREY — Guitar great Chuck Berry once played a free concert to open a Chevy car dealership in Ladner.
In 1981, a huge crowd gathered to hear famous riffs played by the rock ‘n’ roll icon, who is seen in a 10-minute video posted to Youtube by user 12voltvids a couple of years ago.
“I worked for the community TV station at the time, and was one of the cameramen on the gig,” the poster says.
“32 years later I find this old 3/4″ tape with this performance recorded on it. The quality in parts are not great, as the video has deteriorated a fair bit, but this is history worth preserving, and after months of searching i was able to locate a working video deck to play this old tape. I hope you enjoy it, as it is a rare performance.”
Check it out below.
Word is that Berry also played a gig at a Surrey car dealership in the mid-1970s. Does anyone remember that? Shoot me an email with details, tom.zillich@thenownewspaper.com.
