The living dead invaded Penticton’s Main Street on Saturday, as the third annual Zombie Walk hosted by Penti-Con brought out all the guys and ghouls.
Twenty-three zombies of all ages made their way down Main Street to the Craft Corner Kitchen to have their costumes judged. The Penticton event tied in with walks in other cities across B.C., including walks in Kelowna and Victoria, and had it’s most walkers so far.

“It was our best year yet,” said organizer Lillian Wilson. “Not having rain this year was big. It was warmer too, and I think just by word of mouth more people are hearing about it.”
The walk saw a mix of returning and new walkers, and plenty of elaborate costumes. Some were simple and effective combinations of make-up and torn clothes, while others went to more elaborate lengths for their costumes.
“It took about four-and-a-half hours to get ready, mainly the makeup,” said Kiley Gold, whose costume won in the Best Adult category. Her costume assembly came down to the last second before the walk. “I was starting to panic, the neck wasn’t working and things were starting to fall off, but I guess it adds to the effect. I’m trying not to make a mess wherever I go, because little bits of skin are falling off.”
New this year was a scavenger hunt for the younger zombies to entertain themselves on the walk. Kids were treated to ghostly lollipops at the end, and next year is planned to be even bigger.
“I want to get some of the businesses on Main Street involved,” said Wilson. “So the zombies can interact a little more with them.”
