Volunteers needed for Chilliwack Lions Club Music and Dance Fest

Co-ordinators needed in areas of dance, piano, strings, vocals for month-long competition next year

Organizers of the Chilliwack Lions Club Music and Dance Festival are looking for a handful of volunteers who can commit several full days of their time at next year’s competition.

Co-ordinators are needed for the month-long festival for its dance, piano, strings and vocal disciplines.

“This is the person who’s the lead volunteer for each area to make sure things run smoothly,” says registrar Laurie Hirschman.

They are looking for one co-ordinator for each area, except dance where ideally two to three volunteers are needed. Students and other volunteers will be helping the co-ordinators.

Each lead volunteer shift is about eight to 12 hours long. For piano, the person would be needed for roughly four days in a row, strings would be two to three days, vocals will be three days, and dance is the longest at 16 days, hence the need for more than one co-ordinator.

“The more who can share [dance] the better,” says Hirschman, adding that there’s a small honourarium available if requested.

Volunteers for shorter shifts are also needed for jobs like running front of house at the festival.

“We can always use a volunteer for two to three hours.”

Additionally, Hirschman is in search of someone to take on her role as registrar, which includes co-ordinating all the entries and getting them into a program setting.

“It’s a fair chunk of hours,” she says.

The Chilliwack Lions Club Music and Dance Festival runs Feb. 13 to March 13, 2020. It has been around for more than seven decades.

“We’re looking forward to our 73rd year,” says Hirschman. “It’s time to get more young blood so this continues.”

Anyone wishing to volunteer, or for more info, contact Laurie Hirschman at hirschmanhouse@telus.net or 604-858-3147.
