Volunteers needed to keep village hopping

Music in the Village plays this weekend and R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum and a call goes out for volunteers for other events.

Music will fill the air at R.J. Haney Heritage this weekend.

In partnership with Ben Stewart of Richard Rachael Promotions, Haney will host Music in the Village, Saturday July 23.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the music starts at 5.

There will be two stages and four bands for an evening of entertainment.

Performing on the acoustic stage will be Ian Hill and Ben St. John of Kissy Kiss; on the band stage you will hear performances from City of Sparks and Kyle Fritzpatrick.

Admission is by suggested $5 donation. Take your blanket, sit on the grass and relax and enjoy the music.

Hot dogs, pop, ice cream cones and popcorn will be available.

Casting call

The village is looking for “spooks” for their annual Spooktacular event.

If you are interested in volunteering for this fun community event, attend the casting call with a brief description of your spook character and cover letter including your name and contact information from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 24. Refreshments will be served.

The village is also looking for volunteers willing to lend a hand painting the Newnes Blacksmith Shop. This job requires someone who is willing to scrape, wash, paint and is able to work on scaffolds.

If you can commit to a four-hour shift, give the village a call at 250-832-5243.

Work crews are also being organized to build a porch roof on the newly acquired Laitinen house.

“If you are able to wield a hammer, pound nails and square the site for the footings, you’re the ones we’re looking for,” says visitor services co-ordinator Susan Mackie.

R.J. Haney Heritage Village is located at 751 Highway 97B.
