A new headliner has been announced for Revelstoke’s new Axis Mundi Festival in September.
Walk Off the Earth, who gained fame for a music video showing all five members playing one guitar, will be headlining the festival at Revelstoke Mountain Resort on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Walk Off the Earth is best known for their cover of Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know, who’s video has received more than 165 million views on YouTube.
The Canadian alternative pop group consists of Sarah Blackwood, Gianni Luminati, Ryan Marshall, Mike Taylor and Joel Cassady. Together they play a mix of folk, rock, ska and reggae, performing originals and creative covers.
Their debut album R.E.V.O. was released in 2013 and the band is set to release the follow-up Sing it All Away on June 16 on Columbia Records. The debut single, Rule the World, was released at the end of March and is another YouTube hit for the band, with 2.5 million views so far.
Axis Mundi is a two new festivals being held in Revelstoke — one in September and the other in June. The inaugural Axis Mundi Harvest Festival will take place September 18–20. The multi-genre festivals will feature events related to music, arts, adventure sports and the environment. There will be events downtown during the day, before the festival shifts to RMR for the nightly music festival.
Other major acts playing include Ashley MacIsaac, the Floozies, Adham Shaikh, Buckman Coe, Grounders and Sticky Fingers.
