Warren Miller’s Line of Descent is bigger, deeper, and fresher than ever

Film takes you on an adventure across the globe, by land, air, and sea, exploring the ties that bind ski culture

Adventure, action, and excitement, Line of Descent has it all, and on Nov. 11 you can experience it for yourself at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

Line of Descent takes you on snow-sport filmmaker Warren Miller Entertainment’s (WME) adventure across the globe, by land, air, and sea, exploring the ties that bind ski culture.

It is the latest effort bringing you from British Columbia to France, as a new generation of skiers and riders push their sports to new extremes. In Squaw Valley and Jackson Hole, WME visits skiing icons who have made the mountains their home, before travelling to Norway, where a Canadian ski patroller enjoys the company of his Norwegian brethren. Along the Beartooth Highway, a road trip by motorcycle takes athletes Kalen Thorien and Mike Shaffer from Montana to Wyoming. While in New Zealand, Seth Wescott and Rob Kingwill descend Mount Crook. Line of Descent will leave you inspired to discover the Great North and experience your very own winter adventure.

It has been 68 years since Miller made his first full-length feature film, and he has been on a hot streak ever since. A pioneer of the ski film industry, Miller has produced one film each year and travelled the globe with their crew to capture the world’s winter beauty. Miller got his start in the filmmaking industry in 1949 while working as a ski instructor in Idaho. After filming himself and fellow skiers to improve their techniques, Miller decided to make a career out of his hobby. It was then that he founded Warren Miller Entertainment and began producing his own films.

Whether you’re ready to embark on a snowy voyage and ski the world’s best mountain ranges or not, this film will leave you with the rush of adrenaline that comes with winter sports. Plus an appreciation for the beauty that winter brings, and, most of all, a desire to get out and explore.

An avalanche of door prizes will also be available to win that night. From adventure gear and equipment provided by local businesses, to lift passes, the adventure doesn’t have to stop when the film does.

Line of Descent is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $20 and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
