It’s that time of year again – when the smell of popcorn wafts through the night air and fun films are projected on an inflatable screen in the middle of the city.
Movies Under the Stars returns to Surrey this weekend with the all-ages show Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 on Aug. 6 in Holland Park.
Based on the popular children’s book series of the same name, the film centres on the often hilarious sibling rivalry between brothers Greg and Roderick Heffley.
The movie has some local ties in that Noah Benoit, one of the Movie Under the Stars volunteers is an extra in the roller rink scene and the majority of skates used in the scene came from the old Stardust Skating Centre in Surrey.
The movie begins at dusk, but pre-show fun begins at 4:30 p.m. with face painting, crafts and entertainment. The North Surrey Lions Club will have a barbecue set up and there will be a concession with drinks and popcorn.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, umbrellas, snacks and anything else needed to make the outdoor movie experience more comfortable.
This weekend is the first of four film nights scheduled through August. Other upcoming movies include Ramona and Beezus (Aug. 13), Tangled (Aug. 20) and Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never (Aug. 27).
Holland Park is located on the corner of King George Boulevard and Old Yale Road. For more information, visit www.downtownsurreybia.com or call 604-580-2321.
