Complete with a brass ensemble and Celtic band, only two shows will be open to the public

A Christmas Carol is coming to Oak Bay High Dec. 18 and 19. It will be an original musical adaptation created by drama teacher Tim Bradshaw, with some musical help from his son Leif.

“There’s a brass ensemble who will be playing; and then there’s also a Celtic band with a drum, a fiddle and a flute. Then a pianist who’s playing an original Celtic reel,” Bradshaw explains. “This is entirely a Grade 10 production, including all of the musicians.”

The main driving force behind the play is Bradshaw’s Grade 10 drama class. The band students are volunteers who practiced outside of class hours. There are some older students helping out as well, although Bradshaw notes they’re mostly in support roles to help the younger students succeed.

The Oak Bay News stopped by a dress rehearsal Dec. 16 to film a sneak peek at what’s to come.

The performances will take place in the Dave Dunnet Community Theatre. Tickets are $5 for adults or $2 for students. Donations will be accepted at the door for the local food bank, and proceeds from concession sales will go towards supporting a family dental centre in Central America through the Interact Club.

“We’re hoping the public will come and support us and be entertained,” Bradshaw says. “It’s just a whole bunch of fun.”

Tickets are available at the door, or online at oakbay.sd61.bc.ca/news-events/a-christmas-carol-2018.
