John Welsh will be performing Aug. 16 at the Concert in the Park.

John Welsh offers up a wide variety of musical styles as part of the Envision Financial Concert in the Park Series Aug. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.

For the past 10 years, Welsh has been performing his eclectic style of music for audiences around B.C. and the greater Vancouver region. He got his start in the college house-party scene playing songs along which everyone could sing. John draws influences from artists such as Ben Harper, Gypsy Kings, Sam Roberts and Joel Plaskett. His songs are often inspired by his travel experiences and blend elements of folk, surf rock, reggae and Latin. Welsh has recorded and performed with various acts such as the Welsh Brothers, Los Amigos and Rhythm and Cello. He has played hundreds of parties, shows and events throughout the greater Vancouver area sharing the stage with artists such as Tom Freund, Current Swell, Daniel Wesley and T. Nile.

Welsh is currently finishing up a new EP in the studio recording with producer Digory Smallz (Joshua Hyslop/Young Liars/Oh No Yoko!). The EP holds down a strong rhythm section with Five Alarm Funk drummer Tim Proznick and bass player Darren Parris. Lyrically, his songs capture an energy flowing naturally within layers of organic instrumentation, adopting a sound unique unto its own. John is preparing for a 2014 spring release of his new EP. His lively style and energetic band will be sure to get you dancing and singing along.

This night will also be Kid’s Day. It runs with the concert from 6 to 8 p.m. with an art corner, mascots, a bouncy castle, face painting and more! If you have this Saturday free, make sure to bring the kids for a fun-filled evening at Mill Lake Park and the Kariton Art Gallery and Boutique.

Mill Lake Park is located at 2387 Ware St.
