Lester Centre of the Arts 30th Anniversary

The 30th anniversary gala event kicks off with pre-show wine and cheese at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening. The celebration hosts 145 performers and the 1.5 million patron will walk through the doors that evening with a chance to win a $2,000 travel voucher from Quadra Travel.

The gala and show runs from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Lester Centre of the Arts or Cook’s Jewellers.

Puppy party!

Rupert residents have organized a potluck and party for dogs at Diana Lake on Saturday at noon. The event should run until sunset.

Invitations are open to all canines and pet lovers alike.

Chronic Pain Self Management Workshop

Free sessions continue on Saturday at the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The program will help participants learn how to understand and manage their symptoms, how to stay physically active, how to deal with stress and how to effectively communicate with your health care providers.

Chinese New Year Celebration

The Prince Rupert Chinese Association is hosting a celebration for the Year of the (fire) Rooster on Sunday. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the banquet begins at 6 p.m. with a traditional lion dance.

There will also be traditional fan, spoon and scarf dances, songs sung by the Chinese school, a lion eye-dotting ceremony and a Chinese food buffet.

Charles Hays Basketball double header

The Rainmakers face the Duchess Park Condors twice, starting on Friday evening, juniors play at 5:30 p.m. and the seniors play at 7 p.m.

They compete again on Saturday, with juniors on the court at 11:15 a.m. and the seniors at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students.

Peewee Rep hockey game

The Seawolves play the last game of the regular season hosting Kitimat at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre at 11:30 a.m.

Cheer them on as they continue their stellar season.

Initiation hockey tournament for kids

Introduce your young kids to hockey this weekend. Fun scrimmages for kids seven-years and younger will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.
