Business Excellence Awards

The votes are in for your favourite businesses in the community.

The results for the Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards are being presented at the Lester Centre of the Arts on Saturday evening starting at 6:30 p.m. with a champagne celebration.

Children’s festival

Tons of activities and fun for the whole family at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre this Saturday for the 26th Annual Children’s Festival. Some of the activities include lazer fish and laser tag, a bouncy castle, tattoo and face paint parlour, a climbing wall and some treats to help fuel all that bouncing around.

Admission is by donation.

The fun starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.

Charity Hockey Game

For the 9th year, the Guns N Hoses Charity Hockey Game will take place at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre, this time on Friday night at 7 p.m.

The game features a friendly rivalry between the firefighters and RCMP, with proceeds going to charity. This year, the money will go towards the local SPCA and the wildlife shelter.

The Hoses (firefighters) have defeated the Guns six out of the last eight games.

Novice tournament

The Coastal Classic 2017 will take place in Prince Rupert this weekend, welcoming novice teams to the ice.

There will be three teams from Prince Rupert, two Terrace teams, two Kitimat teams, as well as teams from Smithers, Houston and Hazelton.

Play will go from 5:15 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday, continue on Saturday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., and finish up on Sunday from 8 a.m. until 3:45 p.m.
