Writing on Works to be read

Audience to be judges for Wednesday night WoW event

On Wednesday June 17 six shortlisted stories will be read out at the Zocalo Cafe by their authors. Forty six stories and poems were entered into the Mayworks Society sponsored event Writing on Work (WoW) 2015 and our judges have, after much deliberation, narrowed it down to six.

Those six authors and their stories are

Kymme Patrick    A Generation of Women

Lorin Medley       Cathedral in the Grove

Lily Price Hoy      Just Do It

Judy Millar         Paradise Parlour

Bronwen Duncan    Welcome to Chaos

William Ellis        Working in the Tribal Territories in Pakistan in the mid 60s

Lily Price Hoy won WoW 2014 with her story ‘My Father’s Story’, and Judy Millar has been shortlisted in all three WoW events. Kymme Patrick is a well-known playwright.

The way it works is that the audience at the reading will vote by secret ballot on their favourite story. Here is a chance to be a literary judge and support the arts. There is also a separate prize awarded by our three judges. Both prizes are worth $300. All six stories will be published in a chapbook which will be available the night of the reading. The reading are always fun,  so come down to the Zocalo Cafe on the 17th at 7 p.m. and if you want you can reserve a table by phoning 250-331-0933
