Spring is coming, the signs are everywhere, and the Yellow Point Singers are getting ready to share their love of song with their community.

This 40-plus-member choir has spent most Wednesday evenings at Cedar Secondary School rehearsing for its upcoming Spring Concert and has also enjoyed a full-day workshop with director Doug Roszmann and accompanist Sharyn Andruski-Collins in order to bring their very best to their audience.

Sing in the Spring will be held at Oceanview Community Church on Davis Road in Ladysmith this Sunday (April 29) at 2:30 p.m.

The season’s repertoire reflects a variety of music, including some wonderful seafaring songs, more classical pieces and some more familiar to all, such as Blue Skies and Blackbird. For the director’s inner child, they will include a couple of fun pieces for a good musical chuckle.

The Yellow Point Singers are very happy and honoured to present their musical guests The Centre Belles, an all-female choral group from Chemainus, with director and accompanist Ola Sage. They rehearse out of the seniors’ centre in Chemainus and have performed concerts with the larger senior mixed choir, including two concerts in December and one in the spring. They also like to sing for seniors in the community.

The Centre Belles started about two years ago as a smaller choir and have since grown to about 35 members. This season, they will be sharing more contemporary pieces with our audience, including Perhaps Love and Wind Beneath My Wings. If anyone in the audience is interested in joining these lovely female voices, they can get membership information through the Chemainus Seniors Drop In Centre.

Audience members are cordially invited to join the performers after the concert for light refreshments in the church foyer. Tickets for each concert are $10 per person or $20 for a family, and they will be available at the door.

Yellow Point Singers is a non-profit community choir which donates a portion of each concert’s proceeds to a charity.

Yellow Point Singers is a choir for people who love to sing of all levels of musical abilities, and welcomes new voices. If you would like to join them, feel free to speak to one of the choir members after the concert or call one of our choir managers, Dave Carter at 250-245-3727 or Edith Morgan at 250-591-1170, for details of membership. They can guarantee you a friendly and musical welcome!
