A busy 2011 has proved to be a springboard for an even bigger 2012 for a young Vernon born and raised actress.
Lilah Fitzgerald, eight, has landed the highly coveted role of Cate Ward in the upcoming Legendary Pictures/Warner Brothers Entertainment feature The Seventh Son.
The movie is an adaptation of The Last Apprentice, a series of novels written by Joseph Delaney. The story follows the seventh son of a seventh son as he learns how to exorcise ghosts, contain witches, and bind boggarts in the 1700s.
The cast includes Oscar winner Jeff Bridges, as well as Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, and Oscar nominee Julianne Moore.
Partially filmed in Vancouver, shooting begins this month and runs through until May.
Fitzgerald will play the younger sister of Tom Ward (Barnes), the Spook’s apprentice. Barnes is no stranger to the adventure genre having played Prince Caspian in a pair of Narnia movies.
“I keep thinking I should pinch myself,” said Fitzgerald, who is now based in the Lower Mainland. “It’s really happening.
“It’s going to be so much fun. I can’t give away any of the details. And I can’t wait to start shooting.”
Fitzgerald is also looking forward to seeing herself as the lead in the upcoming short film The Stolen, directed by Vancouver’s Karen Lam.
Set for release later in March, the film is a dark fairytale about an imaginative little girl who saves a bullied boy, and is granted a secret wish.
Lam said Fitzgerald has a lovely presence on camera, and an even sweeter personality.
“She brought imagination, warmth and intelligence to the role, and gave us so many options for the edit,” said the director. “She has real talent, and I look forward to working with her on my next feature film project.”
Fitzgerald most recently appeared on the popular sci-fi show Supernatural, which aired in early February.
Her biggest role before landing The Seventh Son was a lead role in the Lifetime Network’s The Pastor’s Wife, starring Rose McGowan.
The movie was based on the real-life 2006 media sensation involving Mary Winkler’s shooting of her small-town preacher husband.
