The Devil’s Edit, a cinematic experience created by local youth, will be screening at the Rotary Hall at the Florence Filberg Centre at 7 p.m. on Dec 14.

The screening will feature the latest original films created by participants of the Youth Media Project at the Comox Valley Art Gallery. This is a free, all ages event, open to the general public.

The Comox Valley Art Gallery’s Youth Media Project is a program aimed at connecting young, creative individuals to employment opportunities while training them in the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking. The program includes multiple workshops and ample opportunities to build connections within the community. The CVAG YMP runs over the course of 13 weeks and is open to young people ages 16-30.

The films created cover a wide range of themes and topics. Each of the nine participants created one personal film on a subject that is important to them, and one film as a part of a work placement with various organizations throughout the Comox Valley.

“This has been a life-changing experience,” says Paige Brown, “I was given the honor of working with nine folks who not only kept me laughing, but have been a major support through the program. Much appreciation to Krista and Dan who make a supportive and merry band of media experts. I don’t think I could have imagined a better program. I had lost sight of how to create positive change and this program has been a wonderful reminder.”

The Devil’s Edit is screening at the Rotary Hall at the Florence Filberg Centre on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 for people to mingle with the filmmakers and enjoy the free snacks.
