Young Voices speak at the art gallery

Dozens of student art pieces will be displayed at the Mission Art Gallery until June 9.

The Mission Art Gallery is displaying the work of Mission high school students between now and June 9 that highlight messages of social responsibility.

Called “Young Voices: Images and words from our Youth,” the show has been juried already and will run an award presentation and meet and greet on Saturday, May 26, at 1 p.m.

The artwork from Hatzic and Heritage Park secondary students is divided into three categories. There is photographic poster art, collaborative murals (with up to eight students participating in one mural) and collage art.

Some of the pieces are light and inspiring, while others can be dark and thought-provoking, especially the ones highlighting body image and drug abuse.

The show’s theme is what young people (aged 14-18) think about what the message of social responsibility means. The work was juried by community members.

The Mission Art Gallery is at 33529 First Ave.
